Renewal Story: Joseph

Posted: December 10, 2019

Two weeks into the New Year, Joseph could see 2019 didn’t hold a lot of promise for him. He was on probation and had nowhere to live. “I had a legal issue. I couldn’t go back home,” he explains. “and my family were all in California and Oklahoma.”

Joseph’s probation officer suggested he call 211 to connect with services he might need. The first option he was given was UGM-TC. “I had never heard of it. I didn’t know what to expect,” he admits. “But the bus dropped me off here, and I stayed over night.”

It wasn’t long before Joseph discovered the Mission offered him everything he needed to get this year – and the rest of his life – back on track. He joined our Skill Building Program and began working in our warehouse. “I like it quite a bit,” he says.

Joseph also got help with a back injury from our Healing Shepherd Clinic. “They set me up with x-rays and physical therapy,” he says. “I’m doing that twice a month.”

When his injury is healed, Joseph plans to look for work outside the Mission. “I want to get my license, get a job, save money and get housing.” In the meantime, he looks forward to the holidays and hopes to be able to reconnect with his family.

Thanks to you, 2020 should be a much brighter year for Joseph!

Behold, I will do a new thing – now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19, NKJV
