Renewal Story: Cara

Posted: June 1, 2016

Cara had been off drugs for 17 years until her father died. “Death leaves a heartache none can heal,” she says.

Trying to heal the heartache with drugs over the next two years, Cara lost everything: her job, her home, her self-esteem. “I was left in a dark place, depressed,” she remembers.

Cara went to a treatment center for help and they referred her to UGM-TC. “It was like God led me here, because it was a blessing. UGM-TC taught me how to love myself and showed me how to live,” Cara says. “They gave me all the resources I needed.”

Since coming to UGM-TC, Cara’s health has improved tremendously. She received treatment for depression, got an ear implant, and had her cataracts and teeth fixed. Your support also provided chapel services and Bible studies that renewed Cara’s spiritual and emotional health.

“I’m on top of the world,” says Cara. Drug-free for 15 months, Cara has restored her relationships with her children and grandchildren and looks forward to moving into her own place soon.

“I’m ready to go out there and live my life like a productive citizen,” Cara tells us. “My goal is to volunteer at UGM-TC, to give back what they gave to me.”
