Water Response

“When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.” Isaiah 41:17

It’s no secret that summer in Fort Worth can be brutal. Imagine being outside everyday in the heat with little shade and few places to cool off. At Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County we always try to prepare for the extreme summer weather and keep our guests from the street safe and cool. We couldn’t do that without water though.

Just before the summer heat was upon us this year; it became apparent that we had used most of the water from the previous summer and were running dangerously low. You see, last year if you can recall, there were horrible fires out at Possum Kingdom Lake in the springtime. Once the fires were under control the Chisholm Trail chapter of the American Red Cross had plenty of water left over from the emergency and donated much of it to us. We were set for water before the summer even began! This year was different though.

But, because of the wonderful community support, it was only a matter of time before the water started “flowing” in. Whether it was seeing it on our Facebook & Twitter pages, hearing about it at church or just word-of-mouth, people were finding out about the need and the word quickly spread. It was incredible to witness.

Now, with the hottest days ahead, we have our water needs met all thanks to you! Every guest that comes in for a meal leaves with their own water, which can be re-filled at any point during the day if they ask. We could not have done it without your support and can’t express our appreciation enough. Thank you for allowing us to continue to meet the needs of the homeless.
